Search for Cheaper "Open Jaw"
Flights with ITA Matrix
An "open jaw" ticket is a round-trip ticket where you leave a different airport than you originally arrived. Booking an open jaw ticket on traditional sites is tough, though, so Map Happy recommends finding the cheapest ticket through ITA Matrix.
It's tough to compare open-jaw trips on most booking sites—that is, trips that involve flying from point A to point B, then point C to point A. ITA Matrix—the flight search tool that powers sites like Kayak—has some more advanced search features that make the process easier. While some booking sites can search multi-destination trips, ITA Matrix gives you much more flexibility in terms of dates, which destination you visit first, and so on—meaning you can find the best possible price.
All you need to do is:
- Head to ITA Matrix and choose the "Round Trip" tab.
- In the "Departing From" box, choose your home airport (point A).
- In the "Destination" box, type both of your travel destinations—point B and point C—separated by a comma, as shown above.
- Adjust your dates and run the search.
From there, it isn't too different from using other comparison engines—the only quirk is that you can't book through ITA Matrix. But, you can find the flight numbers, then go plug them into Kayak manually and buy your tickets that way. Essentially, you're using ITA Matrix for its more powerful search and comparison tools, then booking the old-fashioned way.
It sounds a little confusing, but the end result is the cheapest set of tickets you can book for an open jaw trip. Check out the full post on Map Happy for a more detailed run through.
All you need to do then is to choose cheap holiday accommodation.
